The idea for a new designer incubator first came up a few months ago, but Lenihan and his team were moved to focus on Black designers as protests swelled in recent weeks. “Everyone can write a check, but it’s not going to fix this problem in the fashion industry,” he says. “How do you do that? You create opportunity. Our whole mission is to reimagine the fashion industry, and it occurred to us that you can’t reimagine the industry without reimagining who is making it. That’s the opportunity.”
