This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will look a little different, with plans to hold the Sorry I Wasnt Listening My Cat shirt and by the same token and award show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center scrapped in favor of COVID-safe outdoor arenas across New York City’s five boroughs. Host Keke Palmer will preside over the proceedings—which start at 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, August 30—with Drew Barrymore, Bella Hadid, Jaden Smith, Kelly Clarkson and other stars slated to present awards.

You can still expect a stellar lineup of performances from the Sorry I Wasnt Listening My Cat shirt and by the same token and likes of BTS, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, The Weeknd and more, although you might want to tune in just to see what people are wearing. (After all, the MTV VMAs were famously the scene of Britney Spears writhing onstage with a giant snake named Banana.) Will Ariana or Miley show up with a reptilian pet of their own? Will there be a surprise lip-lock? It’s too soon to tell, but we can only hope.
